Nose of forest floor and dried blackberry. Medium to full bodied and inky. Quite nice.

PnP, ready to drink, medium bodied, enough fruit, enjoyable, for me not too much modern style. Of course a simple wine for under 20 Euro.

Not bad - very high pitched and jammy at first, but better after a long decant. Full of blackberries which are borderline overripe, with just enough acidity for now to ensure a little freshness. Made in a concentrated style which used to be called "modern" and which has thankfully gone out of fashion. I preferred the 2015.

June 12, 2023: The 2016 Paloumey received 89-90ish reviews by other CT followers. To my palate it's a little early to tell whereit's going. It is now 7 years young....very young. At this time to me it is a little stiff with again, to me, some cherry coexisting with prunes and a hint of chocolate. If I had to guess I think it will drinK nicely in 5 years or so and better 7-10. A bargain aT $33-$35.

Thought I grabbed a 2015 (which are drinking great right now). Unfortunately the 2016 is shut down with minimal fruit and a muddle mouthfeel of acid and tannin. I see waiting at least 2 more years for some upside. 3.6 stars.

Aromas of earth, slate, and oak. On the palate, fruit balanced by acidity, oak, and tannin. Everything is well integrated. The finish is short prominent with acid and spice. A great food wine and drinking well now with the ability to cellar a few more years.

Dark red berries, with a hint of peppery spice and some oak that needs to integrate a bit better, the wine is medium-bodied, bright, crisp and juicy, with a stony, firm finish. Drink from 2024-2035.

55% Merlot, 43% Cab Sauv, 2% Cab Franc. Fresh, chewy, medium tannin. Nice medium body. Dare I say med plus acid? Even keel between fruit and non fruit flavor, a light floral, violet tinge too and makes me think I’m drinking Malbec perhaps. The merlot and cab are well meshed without one or the other really calling out.

Clean, fresh, deep purple not much translucence. Light aromatics of cedar, minerals. Cherry, young balsamic, leather, some tartness on the palate. Better after open and breathing for a few hours then plateaued. Lost a lot of its character and became flat, overly dry the next day.

This was drinking better a couple of years ago. Seems very odd but then last couple of bottles have been thin and uninteresting. Though a quality made wine, just ok as of late.

A bit of green bean to it. And leaning towards a modern kinda thing.

Purchased recently in a retail store. PnP, drank over two nights. I thought this bottle was excellent, in a great place now and very food friendly.

Lots of chocolate and leather, but I feel that it didn’t quite come together. Probably could have used more time.

Peppery, dark red berries, medium-bodied, soft, polished, forward and already accessible, the wine is packed with sweet and savory herbs and a stony, firm finish. 87-89

By the glass. Lots of fruit both on the nose and on the palate. Wood is quite well integrated. Solid, modern, with a lot of Merlot sensation plus some pleasant and integrated tannins. Por copas. Mucha fruta tanto en nariz cómo al paladar. La madera esta bastante bien integrada. Sólido, moderno, con mucha sensación de Merlot y unos taninos agradables e integrados.

Decanted for 2 hours and opened with full expectation that it is a few years too early but very pleasantly surprised. Top class CB from a stand out year. Not complex but plenty of red and black fruit and well integrated tannins already.

Popped and poured. Nose of violet, blackberry, currant, tobacco and graphite. Black and red fruit, cocoa, tobacco, graphite and ripe chewy tannins on the palate. Finishes with good length. Medium to full bodied. Served with grilled smash burgers.

The 2016 Paloumey has a pure, classic cassis nose - if a bit light. Delicious mineral and blueberry palate.

Medium-bodied, and already rounding out, this early drinking, ripe, fruit-filled charmer is already delicious to drink.

Opened the wine, decanted it and left it for 3 hours. Served at cellar temperature. Don’t waste your time drinking this wine for a year. The acids are so viscous that you really can’t get a lot of enjoyment right now. I was hoping that given the quality of the vintage there would be enough fruit to have some fun drinking. The wine has nice concentration, but not a great deal of elegance today. High hopes for the future and …

This is rather firm, rather stiff. While the Senejac has impressive power, this one is a bit stolid. Lacks a certain class and barrel aging will smoothen the tannin. 86-88
