Palmina Savoia

My last bottle. Still drinking very well at 11 years, I think it’s peaking and should still be great through 2027-8. At first sniff, it defiantly had a jammy thing going on (not bad, just not my thing). Decanted for two hours and what a difference. Still had a hint of jam but it was just right. Over the years, the fruit has been replaced by a beautiful spiciness. I really enjoyed this. It made me miss Palmina.

Paired well with lemony sauteed halibut and cilantro spinach pesto pasta.

Wildcard Wines - Tiplers Blind Tasting Group; 8/23/2021-8/24/2021 (Grapes & Grains, Temecula, CA) : Tasted blind. Incorrectly identified as Rhone blend. Lively, spirited palate featuring red fruits, violets, clove, and white pepper. The palate also has a very slight spritziness upon opening. It's unfortunate that this was the last wine of the tasting.

Needs about 4 hours.

An interesting and enjoyable blend that works quite well with sausage and peppers and pizza too. Nice fruit, rustic notes, and food friendly acidity.
