Thank you to the person who cared for this bottle of wine for the last 20 years. I recently purchased this bottle at auction. I also recently had a few bottles of the '98 vintage of this wine. The '98s were a bit hit and miss. This vintage was delicious. Metala makes wines that hold up to time so well. Definitely a tertiary wine, but still (with a little air) very fruit forward. Integrated tannins. Very nice

Matured in French and American oak for 15 months. 340,000 bottles made. Tasted as part of vertical tasting spanning 50-odd years of Metala Shiraz Cabernet in 2012. Colour , still good minimal browning ,sweet-fruited in the mouth. Has an elegance. Blackcurrant, violets, plums, earth and leather. Drinking very nicely now.

Good strong colour. Limited bricking. Quite a volatile nose with a touch of mint/menthol. Overpowering menthol on opening though there is some fruit there underneath - leave. After an hour the menthol is mostly gone, revealing savoury blackberry (albeit with some mint remaining). Interesting across the tongue and a pretty reasonable finish. Very Good.

Perhaps expectations were a lot lower this time but I quite enjoyed this. Jammy and richer than I remembered. Maybe I'll keep the remaining bottle to see how it develops. Probably a bit over-priced though.

Plummy colour. Thin bouquet. Waxy with hints of mint. Not muich in the way of tannins or acid. Sticky waxy finish. It's ok and quaffable but I expected a bit more.
