This is a well made wine but I don’t like the blend. To be the cab is pushed far to red right fruit from the Syrah leaving a lean midpalate that gets crushed by blue preserve-like fruit from the cab franc. I will avoid such blends from Ovid in the future.

I rated my first bottle 93 in 2015, although I think this was probably even better? 1st bottle I noted the ovid cab flavors, this time I first thought the smoky, meaty Syrah (29%) Anyway, it was wonderful, balance, smooth, in it's prime.

Opaque. Red fruits, plums and cool feel on the nose. Add violets and tar on the palate. Good acidity. Vivid and food friendly wine which doesn’t lack depth. Stellar really.

Intereting wine for sure. Blue fruit and cassis early. Leather, vanilla / caramel (oaky) after a couple hours decant.

Too early, but I wanted to try one anyway. Excellent, (especially for 2011) rich, good acidity, balanced, I get some of the Cab flavor of Ovid's cabernet, which is much more expensive. Speaking of the Ovid cab, it has increased in price 50% from 2010 to 2012, darn, one of my 2 favorite cabs is now too expensive.

Even though this scored a 93, we still preferred the '09 Brocard Les Clos as a whole. Sweet corn, blue fruit, plums, milk chocolate, leather, meaty olive and assist. Minerals, smoke and some black road tar. Very complex and layered. Rich yet great acid structured on the finish. Violets and licorice show more on the palate as well as more ripe meaty fruit. Get some of the Syrah in the savory notes. Great wine. Very young but intriguing and a …

Taste at FHE table 130. Decanted about an hour. Spicy dark creamy cherries, cassis, flowers and more spice box. Rich and voluptuous on the nose with touches of rock but mostly cinnamon, clove and spicy pepper - get a little of that Syrah. The palate is equally well endowed and sports more hedonistic dark cherries, purple flowers and gray pepper corns. Long finish with a touch of heat. Expected more layers but still enjoyed this fruit driven spice box from …

Wow... crazy, very interesting. I think the syrah helps counteract some of the bad aspects of this vintage by making the wine a little more viscous or rounder? Really enjoyable.
