Theory Zinfandel

Really a surprising find in my seller. Not logged so I decided to try it even though it could be past its prime. This wine exceeded all expectations.

Zinfandel Tasting (San Diego Wine Co.) : 100% Zin fermented in s/s tanks & aged 12 mos in 30% new oak barrels (80% AM & 20% FR); N: Bright cherries with notes of cherry cola P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with ALMOST swtish frt (suspect threshold R.S.) NICELY controlled by a BIT of astringent pucker which loses ALL its punch by the LONG finish with a tangy/swtness to the few, firming, dusty tannins. Nicely done for now & …

Nose was red fruit, light cherry and raspberry. Not big, but smooth. After 30 minutes, taste opened up tart cherry, light raspberry and a nice smooth dry tannins feel. Finish is long smooth and light balanced dryness. Overall pleased with wine, after not really knowing what I was getting in to.

Second bottle much better than the first.

Red raspberry color with hint of purple. Medium body. Nose is typical Zin, raspberry tart, briar patch, sour red raspberry, very pretty closing herbal note. The palate confirms the nose but is a bit more conservative than anticipated. The fruit is sweet and ripe however not so far as jammy. Has enough acid to balance and a touch of grip on the back. Pretty good value.

I thought this was a little sour, but my wife really liked it

Too jammy for me. Decanted 4hours. Better on day two.

Major Cork Taint. Bummed.

Nice zin. Good fruit. Decent structure though not a very big wine. A great everyday zin for the money.
