Domaine des Malandes, Chablis Premier Cru, Cote de Lechet

First of a six bought EP after tasting and I have to confess I’m rather underwhelmed. Nice enough with hints of gunflint / wet stone Chablis character but lacking GC energy, structure and complexity. Maybe I just failed to give it enough attention because, as I sit here sipping the final drops, it does suddenly seem much more interesting than maybe I gave it credit. Judgement reserved for now.

Pretty good QPR, amazingly my wife liked it (she never likes Chardonnay) as this was all old world minerality and limited varietal characteristics

Vibrant lemon character with soft apple notes and briny minerality. Delicious, balanced Chardonnay. Wish I had more of these.

Great pc Chablis at nearly a decade in. Nose about minerals and the sea at this stage. Seaweed. Lemon. Palate acid and mineral driven. Lemon shows here. Salty. Appropriately reserved. Partial ml shows in butter notes.

90+ Wine Club, Chablis blind tasting (Monk restaurant) : spicy, lemon peel, grapefruit, green, high acidity, pear, tight texture, almost tannic, full body and long finish

Delicious. This was crisp with great tension, nice minerally apple and lemon fruit. Long balanced length with a great finish.

Softly textured, balanced. Apple, seashell, limestone, floral notes. Modestly acidic. Paired well with mussels meuniere.

This bottle seemed less expressive to me - still a nice balance of creaminess and classic white orchard fruit and citrus, but a touch muted.

Nose flinty chalky mineral sea water. Lime and a bit phenolic. Floral hints. Hint of malolactic fermentation. Palate incisively acidic with etched minerality rounded by lactic finish. Sea water there.

Bright lemon and line zesty aromas broadened by Baked pastry and flint. Pallet is taught and sinous. Some richness around the edges that has come with age, but it stays very linear and bright with long acidity. Mouth watering and slightly phenolic

tasty. nice crisp apple lemon fruit with nicely balanced acidity. some rounded fleshy notes, but this is certainly on the leaner side. very good. and drinking well.

This is just what I want in a Chablis, especially at this price. Full of energy. Good depth and length. This is in a good place.

Wine was what I hoped it would be - some creaminess, some tension, solid citrus and white stone fruit, some minerality. Paired with a crab boil in a lovely way.

Not a great Chablis but not too bad either. Needed a bit of time to open up and it was a good burgundy to kick-off a dinner. Have had better representations of the GC.

Blinds (Chicago, IL) : Served double blind. Clearly chardonnay again. There's a little bit of reduction here, but this is a taut, high-acid white wine. A bit of fruit, but far more minerality. A touch of greenness on the finish. Easy white Burgundy guess, but I didn't really end up in Chablis. Thought it was a higher-tier village wine or a 1er cru from the Cote de Beaune.

Flickinger Tasting at The Casino (Chicago, IL) : A really honest chardonnay; this has no pretensions about what it is, nor does it try to be something else. It's simple in its profile, with lean citrus tones and the requisite chalky minerality. It's got a lovely balance between the acid and a fuller fruited profile. Lean, but not bracingly acidic.

EBLC Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay Tasting (SLC) : Great value for the price. A good amount of mineral on the nose, with some citrus and a floral backing. Also a slight apple or pear note to it. Stainless steel aged, and shows as the acidity is cracking and no signs of oxidation. Also I cannot tell if there were any lees stirring? Doesn't appear to be, but I may be mistaken. Shy aroma of limestone, white pepper, preserved lemons. Sweet core of lemon fruit on the palate with crisp acid backing, precise grip and finish. A lovely Chablis for a sunny summer Sunday. 50 + 16 + 17 + 8 = 91.

Simple nose of chalk, citrus rind, and a hint of tropical fruit. Good bite on the palate with clean lemon fruit and a crisp acidic finish. Good summer quaffing wine. 50 + 15 + 16 + 8 = 89.

Had to try as my friend is a chablis fiend. Way to young but this is loaded. Pear or apples on the nose and had a nice mouthfeel. Hold for a few years before next one.

This is so young and really tightly wound, but quite nice. Lots of tension. Oyster shell and pear on the nose. Crisp, bracing acidity and really strong minerality. Quite long finish. I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops over the next few years.

Perhaps earlier than I should have consumed this, but it had been too long since I'd had a Chablis. This was a good one, too. Pear and stone fruit, which is more generous than some Chablis fruit can be, is accompanied by a floral lift and distinct minerality that forms a very appealing and rather pretty package.
