This is in a brilliant spot right now. Definitely secundary aromas of dried flowers, cured meat. very elegant, velvety texture almost Burgundian. and balanced and with extraordinary finish.

A little underwhelming considering some of the lofty scores out there but nonetheless a very pleasant experience. Peppery notes on the nose with black currant and develops very nicely over time and actually somewhat better on day 2. Probably could improve with time but I find drinking pretty well right now. The QPR here though is just not there imo.

Lush and beautiful. Black currant and raspberries. Lighter than expected but still hold some intense power (if that makes sense). Yum! 10 days little i tried a half glass that i left in the bottle. Tremendous.

From magnum. The usual Rostaing horse manure overtone that I love, as well as some cheese. White pepper, a bit of Brett, red fruit. Lovely with good length.

Young, but quite good; the nose is very classic with brambly fruits, hints of smoked meat, olive brine, violet; still a bit bound but up good with food; very impressive depth and concentration; this will improve for another decade.

Slow ox-ed the Rostaing for 2 hours, then followed it for the next 6. On the open it felt a bit flat and one note but by the end it was by far the best wine. Wondering if there was something wrong with this bottle – Brett? Nose was there. At least to begin with. Color was deep, dark and rich. Gave it 75 minutes in a decanter to breathe. Each taste was less enjoyable than the one before it. Towards the end, there was no flavor whatsoever. Basically awful. And we had such high hopes for this wine. Have one more bottle – we’ll have to try it.

Superb nose that boasts out of the glass. It is powerful yet refined and complex. Hard to say if it is a ripe pinot noir or a syrah. After a while in the glass, bacon fat and pepper notes appear. Syrah then. The palate is also very nice, medium body, silky and integrated tanins. This is long and fresh (whole cluster notes). The wine is in a great spot right now and does not show any sign of decline

This was unsurprisingly already ready for business on the open but decided to splash decant anyway to see how it fared. It’s very much an understated Landonne, none of the gras that one expects of the wine (coloured no doubt by impressions of more well-marketed domaines). Black olive and bramble. Opened for 2 hours. Color is deep ruby. On the nose: Not super expressive but I get Pepper, violets, cassis, olive and cured meat. On the palate: Cassis, raspberry, pepper, prevalent and dusty tannins, olive, some sour cherry and savory elements. Wine is too young. It’s very good but seems closed off. Put it down for 5 years.

Tasted blind next to the 2005, and was better. Very floral, fresh raspberries and hung meat. Elegant and silky, some white pepper, great acidity. Fully resolved and might continue to give pleasure but I wouldn’t wait.

An excellent Cote Rôtie, no 2 red WOTN. Definite smoky bacon, blackberry, warm cake spices, hot spiky herbs and beef jus. Lovely savoury quality. Fine tannins all resolved, plenty fine acidity. Very decent length. Very nice drop.

This is now ringing the devil’s doorbell. We had this last 3 years ago ( Papies 92 and young) but in this occasion it was just beautiful and dare we say at peak on the fruit/secondary scale. Part of wine pairing at Pineapple & Pearls dinner. Served as the "anchor" wine, was exceptional, what one expects from a 17 years old cote rotie. Elegant, savory, lean, with interesting yet subtle notes of spice and floral popping in and out. Drink now.

Big fan. Nose shows black fruit & spice, a bit of florals, and a touch of meatiness. Silky, elegant palate still shows its dark fruit but there's a lot of savory, spicy depth & backend minerality. There's still tannin & acid to hold for longer, but I found this to be drinking very well.

Still purple to black. Blackberries with some griotte. Cinnamon with a touch of cloves. Touch of linen. Tannins fine but present. Oddly, an hour after opening there was some reductive elements despite being an entirely clean wine till then. Nice now but will be extraordinary in a decade. Better than 05, 06, 07, probably by some distance, but a very different stage of development.

A Mid-Summer Sunday Supper in Wandsworth (Chez Bruce) : Very top drawer Cote Rôtie, very young for its age. The nose has an immediate sizzling lardon character with some maple syrup sweetness. Around this core there are a number of complementary aromas including Christmas spice, bouquet garni, some picked walnut and beef pho. Palate is substantial, spicy and full of promise with a savouriness that complements the pork cheek dish that accompanied it

Sunday Night Free Corkage Night (Chez Bruce) : On the nose - bacon and Parma violet. On the palate this continues - maple bacon perhaps. Savoury , there’s a hint of beefiness to it. This wine makes me want to sing Carmina Burana - thrilling, exciting stuff.

Gareth's N Rhone vs SA Syrah; 6/3/2023-6/4/2023 (La Cabotte) : On pouring, a whiff of meat and sulphur. I found this a little hard to get on with at first but with time it really opened up - and the last little sip was delicious. Verve and vibrancy and by the end when all the horses were pulling in the same direction, excellent.

Rhône Tasting-cum-Lunch (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL) : Warm and dry vintage. Powerful, big and tannic, quite closed right now, very impressive but needs much more time. On the second day there is not much development, the wine is staying stubbornly in its shell of mouthcoating tannins, and the aromas remain primary. Built for the long haul. Wait ten years at least. Completely intact on the third day.

He two bottles of this. Very approachable and ready to drink though not dead by any means. Fantastic savory, bacon ish, olive, blue/red floral fruited nose. Palate reflects this, definitely on the savory side but plenty of fruit to remain youthful. Definitely some acidity, à hint of soft tannins. Medium bodied and lovely.

Ouvert, épaulé durant 30 minutes puis bu durant 2+ heures. Un peu déçu de cette bouteille. Tapenade, olives vertes, gras de jambon, cuir et un joli côté fumé, le nez était très agréable. La bouche, en revanche, était plutôt quelconque, un peu fluide, équilibre moyen, acide et tanins secs. Pour moi, clairement au-dessous de 2010 et 2007 mais 2006 n'a jamais été un millésime prisé. A boire dans les 5 ans.

Definitely a little past for me - showing some oxidative notes. Rusty nail referenced below was accurate. I can also see glimpses of a pretty Burgundian aspect, aside from the Syrah tannin structure. In my mind no real upside to waiting for this one.
