La Badina Lessona

Pop and pour. Notes from 4 days open. On the nose: black tea, tar, blood orange, black cherry. On the palate: juicy acidity, black tea, blood orange, somewhat linear, soft tannin. Better on opening, so maybe drink over next 3-8 years if this btl is representative.

At ten years, folding into itself like a subtle brewed tea. Pretty cherry mahogany balsamic color that drags itself slowly to the edge of the skirted glass. The aromas don't jump, they're little folders standing military style in a file cabinet that we get to thumb through one by one. One for cherry, one for leather, cinnamon, menthol, tobacco, cedar, chocolate, coffee.

Lovely, distinctive nose. Notes of tar, balsamic, cherry tree flower, Bing cherry, and earth. Tannins were nicely integrated, but the acid was still ripping. Very interested to see how this develops. Well wait another 3-4 years before I check in on my last bottle.

Rose petal and earth on the nose. On the palate, dried cherry, cranberry, and notes of rose petal, orange peel, and earth on the medium finish, with no detectable tannins and strong acidity. Although this is only eight years old, it tastes like a 20-year old wine. It isn't heat damaged, but it may have been stored someplace warm and aged faster than normal. Completely different experience from the two reviews from 11/2020. On pop and pour this had a pleasant floral nose. Palate was quite tart with pronounced bitter notes. Decanted for 4 hrs and double decanted back to take in to a restaurant for Corkage. With air this had an explosive nose of roses and cherries. On the palate lots of cherry fruit, spiciness and earth. Bright acidity and superb tannin structure. Very primary now but you can enjoy the fruit soak …

My experience of this wine was radically different from the other previous reviews. I bought a couple of bottles in 2019 and loved it enough to buy another four bottles in a second offering in 2020. Fell in love with the aromatics on this one. Just opened a second bottle and it is, if anything, better than the first.

My experience was similar to Seth Rosenberg's. Disappointing wine.

Opened this yesterday. On day 1 this was showing very little. Now on day 2 it has opened some but TBH I'm not thrilled. Right now this is showing very raisiny - maybe a little varnish or something.
