Fruit forward Southern Rhone blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Mourvedre, balance is heavily on primary flavours with ripe fruits along some candied savoury notes. Medium ruby colour. Intense savoury aroma of plums, licorice, ripe blackberries, violets, tar, smoke, fried bacon hints. Medium+ body, rich and ripe, savoury and mildly spicy, lots of lush fruits enveloped in silky texture, some smoky and tar notes, medium acidity, medium tannins, lengthy finish.

Red berries, rather light for being a Shiraz. Medium body with quite some tannins at opening. 2 hrs decanting and aerating made it much better.

Beautiful red berries, herbs and spices and good acidity and tannin. Beautiful wine.

The Syrah seemed a lot more to the fore than the (30%) Mourvedre, with a cool, juicy, slightly pepper feel; a Pinot-esque Rhone blend, indeed. Refreshing, not particularly complex, perhaps a bit underpowered in the context of the evening as a whole.

Terroir-istes Local - Syrah Blends 2 (Cape Town - Las Cases) : (Tasted Blind): A mid-ruby colour with garnet edges. A ripe nose shows red and black fruits, sweet spices, vanilla, a hint of chocolate, and a glance of eucalypt. The palate is rich with sweet, grippy tannins and quite a bit of oak. This is reflected in mocha joining charcoal, spice, cola sweets, and tar. There is a sweet underbelly with dried orange segments and black raspberry, but the …

Interesting nose with chocolate, black olive and mint. Medium-bodied with medium acidity and alcohol. Tannins integrated. Decent but not spectacular finish. Overall, good wine that is well made and very drinkable. However, it lacks fruit and a longer finish to make it special.

Intrigued to try this because I’m a fan of the NJ pinot noirs. Wasn’t disappointed! Great fruit, tannin and acidity in balance. Savoury finish, tasted like some whole bunches used? Super elegant and refined. Very drinkable and great value, have stocked up.

As I remembered it from the Winery tasting. Full bodied, great bouquet and long Taste. Perfect to tenderloin.

South African wine tour - Day six (Hemel en Aarde Valley) : gamey, meaty, savoury almost earthy, blackberry, quite closed on the nose. A little peppery spice, slightly sour black berry fruits, drying tannins that are chalky, a little meaty quality, smoky, peppery and finishes with alcoholic warmth. Meh.
