Surprisingly mature for a vintage port. Notes of a Tawny port with dried white raisin and pear. It is quite sweet with lovely balance. Although not overly complex or long. I would drink now and will intend to with the several splits I have left.

First impression right after opening: NOSE: Blueberry, blackberry, violet, some earthiness, hints of smoke and rubber, mixed blueberry & raspberry jam. TASTE: The arrival is fruity (dark berries) with a little mineral spice and fairly polished tannins. On the mid palate structured, with robust fruitiness which appears to be maturing and rounding off its youthful edges. Plush tannins balance the sweetness and fullness of body. Towards the exit some cracked black pepper. Medium long and slightly spicy aftertaste. OVERALL: Provisional …

no proper notes - youthfull and intens. Boysenberry, Blackberry, violets, raisins. Intens and in need for time. The alcohol is a bit pronounced, but hopefully it will get more integrated with time. medium+ finish, solid concentration. Very good quality, 90p

Wow! Dark intense port but with such freshness and tannic grip that you feel this could last a century. Spicy, fruity, and very fine. Was the perfect match with our Christmas Stilton.

Very enjoyable lbv from one of my favourite wine makers. Very fruity and one of best recent lbv of the market. Bought a box to keep, but they're all gone.

Plenty of fruit and depth and very easy to drink. Blackberries, black pepper, marzipan and a little Rosemary. Seems to have evolved faster than expected. A good wine but not among the best LBVs from Niepoort.

From 1/2 bottle. Such a beauty. Fresh floral nose that also shows ripe blackberry and dark cherry. Full-bodied, with fierce, but silky soft and ripe tannins. Although there's plenty of fruit (freshly crushed blackberry and black cherry), it's more about freshness and minerality. Beautiful long finish with lots of spice and dark chocolate.

Monthly tasting club LTC 2015-04; Portugal (@ MvdW) : Beautiful bouquet with creamy blackberries and other dark berry fruits. Same on the palate. Good sweetness and pleasant acidity and soft and round tannin. A very open and friendly LBV. Really good.

Lovely rose and liquorice notes, even tar and smoke. But primarily a spicy, fresh and fruity nose. Taste & palate: Rounded and juicy attack, so fresh and "clean". Moderate sweetness, as typical for Niepoort, and minerals. Lovely juiciness with lots of semi-sweet fruit balanced by lots of tannins and a nice acidity. Lovely young port, on a par even with some of the lighter vintage ports (except that this is better structured and more balanced and elegant). Improved after overnight …

Generous on the palate with dense, sun-ripe, sweet fruit but also fresh acidity and some tannins that brings balance. Dried figs, raisins, plums, cherries-in-liqour and arrack. Well-structured with depth and length. No need to wait, this is great right now. Will last about five years in a good cellar though.

Opaque purple in color, this fortified wine showed raisin, plum, black olive tapenade and orange zest on the nose. The mouth feel brough sweet tannins and added elements of blackberry, dark cherry and Asian soy sauce. The finish was 30+ seconds in length and the 20% abv was held in check. Purchased for $23US/750ml, this is an excellent example of LBV Port that improved over the 2 days it was opened. Readily drinkable now, it easily has the guts to …

Retailer tasting (Le Bouchon) : Ripe dark forest fruits, a firm amount of sweetness and round tannin. Some heat in the finish, but nevertheless a beautiful and harmonious and friendly Port wine.

Dyp ung tett rød. Fin ung "fersk" duft med røde og mørke bær, søte mørke skogsbær, mørk sjokolade, fat, litt alkohol. Fyldig anslag, flott frukt, veldig god syre, fine tanniner, konsentrert, noe alkohol i finishen.

Nose: red fruit with cherries, cough-syrup, clove and dry hay. Maybe also with raisins. After two weeks with iodine and oak. Nice Port, that can be enjoyed from now. (87-)88.

Cedar and caramel-tinted raspberry nose, profound, deep, yet fresh. Fresh fruit on the palate too, that raspberry coming back, floral notes as well as exotic spice. Beautifully poised, purity and purpose. Don't hesitate to tuck it in your cellar for a while. 91+

Very classy. Far too young but tremendous spice that backs up that pure unadulterated fruit which seems to be the hallmark of Niepoort these days. Leave alone. 92++

Bottled 2013. Late Bottled Vintage Port is a category that is inhabited by many different creatures, but it takes all sorts to make a world. This is quite the opposite of the "premium ruby from a single vintage" type of LBV; this is a mini Vintage Port rather. Quite structured, fresh and tannic, medium weight, distinct floral notes (rose) from vinification with ripe stalks, deliciously clean and pure, linear even, only delicately sweet, mineral and energetic, tightly wound; very good …

Imposing dark ruby - lively red color, almost opaque. It offers a perfumed bouquet made of floral aromas, rose petals and subtle sweet red fruit. On palate it is powerful, medium to full bodied with a sweet tannin. It has candy, licorice and strawberries and finishes with a very sweet and long aftertaste (89-92)

From a single bio vineyard (Vinha da Pisca) and bottled after 3 years. Vinified with 100% stems. Bioma has a dark cherry color. Initially some alcoholic nose that precedes to red fresh fruit, balsamic notes and spicy aromas. On palate this one is quite dry, enveloping, mouth coating, with present tannins and a mid palate made of red fruit and liquor. It has a long finish. Seems to have tons of potential.

-- barrel sample -- -- tasted non-blind at the winery over approx. 5 minutes -- This is a single vineyard (Vinha da Pisca) Vintage Port, and this particular vineyard is farmed organically. Bottled three years after harvest, which means it spends one more year in oak than the regular Vintage Port. This wine has an incredibly dark purple color of great depth. Nose was rich, spicy, and a bit waxy (like a wax bean); very expressive Nose. Full bodied on …
