Pop n pour, as we were unsure about the longevity of the wine. Brown/garnet, with a brown hue. Initially damp cardboard, which did burn off quite considerably with a few hours open, but we were never convinced that the cork hadn’t failed. Otherwise a rather tertiary wine, with not a lot of dried fruits left.

Gorgeous mouth feel, with notes of dark cherry and tobacco. Better than the last bottle. Still a shorter finish.

Perhaps a bit young Still . A 15 minute decant helped and it evolved nicely over an hour.

Fantastic wine, now in its prime drinking window.. dark red fruit, forest floor, like walking through a tuscan forest and hints of secondary flavors like leather and tobacco - went well with a heavy pasta (amatriciana) and would be equally great with ragu or tuscan saussage

Dark Ruby color. Intense bouquet of dried cherries, forrest floor, spice, leather and tobacco. Good concentration and fine tannic structure. Well drinking now with some years ahead of it.

A bit disappointed not to have taken the 2015, but this was excellent! True 2017 brunello, it came with an excellent balance and a lively acidity outweighing sometimes invading compote notes of Sangiovese. I found this in an excellent spot right now, perfectly approachable and probably on plateau for at least te years. Kudos, super well done!

Terlato Cru Tasting (Ever - Chicago IL) : Tasting, brief note. Bright red cherry throughout, coming across as charming and elegant already, but with sneaky power, expanding all the way through its long finish. Good+ density with finessed character starting to emerge, but better 2026-, 92-93 point potential.

My club had a Gaja wine tasting dinner. This is the wine that was picked to serve with the pasta course. In my humble opinion this was the best wine of the night. Dark fruit on the nose. The palate was dark berries, tobacco, leather, plums which led into a beautiful finish. This is a very young wine and I believe that it will definitely evolve in the years to come

Decanted for 2 hours. Opaque violet color. Beautiful aromas of dark cherry and earth. The fruit still leads on the palate, where we also got tobacco, mushroom and space. Still with good tannic structure, though gentle, good balance and length. This remains in a very good drinking window without any signs of fading. Side by side with the Sugarille, this was more powerful.

See our note on the Sugarille. Similarly pleasing, though the aromatics in this bottle were a bit more subdued.

Very pleasurable. Concentrated fruit layers, notes of blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, with a shorter finish. The short finish is the only flaw in this wine.

Without any decanting, this was singing from the get-go: Ripe dark berries, amarena cherries, leather, sage. With substantial pressure on the palate, a dense but somewhat developed core of fruits and spices and fine-tuned acidity this was wonderful to drink now. Given the amount of (smooth and silky) tannins this has left, I’m sure the Rennina will easily make it another 5-10 years. Definitely a quite modern approach to Brunello but undeniably well made. I’m just not sure whether the …

Really excellent straight out of the bottle. Poise, length. Colour still quite deep with only a little bricking. Tannins fine. Just enough fruit left in the tank. Wouldnt wait much longer

This was a very good aged Brunello. The tannins are pretty week integrated but there is still a bite. I expected more.

Monthly Holiday Tasting 2018 (I Nonni) : Bellisimo's bottle. Red-fruited and quite savory. The tannins are soft, and there is spice, herbs, underbrush and leather.

Brought to a large gathering, didn't take detailed notes. Decanted almost 2 hours before we got to this. Dark fruits, cedar, leather, dried leaves, sage, soy and tobacco abound. This is a very savory wine and firm but silky tannins and was a pleasure to drink. Recommended.

The nose was dark with sweet floral tones and undergrowth up front, followed by dried cherry, dusty minerals, herbs, and hints of leather. On the palate, I found silky textures with dark fruits with brisk acidity adding vibrancy, inner floral tones and spice filled the senses. It finished with fine tannins, and hints of leather, spice, and tart cherry. The ‘04 was a pleasure to taste as it’s just entering its drinking window yet has many years of wonderfully drinking …

Difficult to assess, juicy, severe, lots of tannins; you taste the quality, but also the struggle to ....? I hope to retaste this wine once, let say in 2020+.

Like other 04 bdm's I have had recently, in a really nice spot drinking wise. This was quite light on its feet - lots of red fruit - with a wonderful italianness about the whole thing. Good bottle

Dark ruby and cloudy. Pleasant bouquet. On the palate, faded ripe fruit, some earthiness and fairly smooth finish. Decent, but it seemed a bit tired, and I expected a bit more. Maybe an off bottle.

Decanted 30 minutes, brought to a restaurant where it sat open for ~ 90 minutes. Consumed along side an '04 Loacker Corte Pavone and both were absolutely singing. The Rennina showed a good bit of leather, dried flowers, black cherry and some savory / earthy undertones with a nice long finish. Tannins are starting to soften but to fully appreciate this it still needs food. Made for the long haul this can go 5 or 10 more years. Same bottle …

Monthly Tasting Group: Brunello's (Rinata, Mpls) : Dark red color. this had 30 minutes of decant and an additional hour of slow ox prior to serving. Back to back '04's that are rocking. Nose is more fruity, some nice purity here, very bright berry fruits, lacquer, floral; the palate is berry fruit, a mix of red and black berries, savory, structured, round tannins that loosening nicely, long finish. This was a bit more structured and bolder than the Corte Pavone …

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #093; Italy: Gaja. (By CvR) : Beautiful bouquet, complex and deep and refined. I did not write down any details, but every sniff gave something new to discover. On the palate dark and red berry fruits, sweet spices, some licorice, pleasant sweetness and good acidity and tannin. A complex and refined wine and a great pleasure now and a future until at least 2018.
