Taster #5845
· Apr 22, 2010
{screwcap, 15%} Bright mid red. Somewhat iron-infused solid blackberry aromas. Thick chewy Victorian red, although the initially punching tannins and the warmth of the alcohol can't quite disguise a back and mid-palate which are ultimately a bit thin. Medium-full bodied, but not for quite long enough. Honest and just rustic enough to have a sniff of authenticity about it. No wonder the business is for sale...

{screwcap, 15%} Still dark garnet in colour. Plummy, somewhat vanillan nose, with a little development becoming apparent. The palate falls only a little short of the aromatic promise, with gently spiced ripe fruits conveying a touch of mentholly coolness over the plum fruits. There's a little tannin evident, some OK palate coverage on the mid-palate - altogether its a fair sort of effort for an entry level wine. Certainly hides its alcohol well.
