This was a solid showing of a traditional Barbera, not overly jammy. Integrated grape tannins with good medium body and the expected balancing acidity to help it accompany burgers and other meats with fats that need cutting.

Remarkable freshness, which I wasn't really expecting from a 7 yr old Barbera. That said, it seems it's got several years at this level yet ahead. I have to take back what I said in April 2019, that this was at its top. Must have been a slightly unusual bottle....because the bottle I'm drinking today is as good as it ever has been. Big floral nose with smoke and dark cherries. Tastes of spicy currants, bing cherries, and big acidity. Delicious.

A good, but somewhat simple rendition of Barbera. Has mostly plumminess and with a bit of tart cherry and anise, but unfortunately has a kinda short finish. I have better liked earlier vintages of this at about the same point in their evolution. It might improve, but the shortness makes not a guarantee. It also didn't have the body and juiciness that would make it complete. A decent antipasti wine though.

A bit less interesting than before. A big floral nose again which is redolent and rich. The palate is a little too spicy and bright this time around. Though still a satisfying drink with some robiola and baguette.

Will agree, solid Barbera, really don't think anymore time will improve it, but a nice wine to enjoy.

Still a very youthful purple colour with no evidence of age. Savoury nose of black fruits and tar/creosote & chocolate, swirling revealing a little more fruit and some florality, but still a brooding nose. Although I don't recall if 2007 was a particularly good year for Barbera, this bottle has stood the time test well. Good evidence of "buy the winemaker, not the vintage." Anyway, I've really enjoyed the bottles of aged Barbera I've had. This bottle is notable for its elegance, something not often associated with the grape. High-ish alcohol well managed. Still plenty of ripe fruit backed up by signature acidity. Tannin perceptible, but well in check. A fantastic value.

Mieux que ma première bouteille. bue avec un beau plateu de 5 fromages de Fritz Kaiser. Super beau vin au fruit croquant, souple et digeste. Un beau nez sur les roses, les petits fruits rouge et les herbes/épices. En bouche, c'est frais et assez ample, des framboises et des canneberges avec de beaux tannins assez fins. Une belle acidité le rend très gouleyant. La finale et assez longue et voluptueuse, très belle bouteille, rien n'accroche.

2 hr decant; this wine is probably divisive among the many. While rich and flavorful this does have such a rich flavor of blueberry/blackberry it would work well on ice cream. While I think it doesn't show the alcohol content, the viscosity shows otherwise. More of a sipping wine than a food wine, it does have it's place. The nose is wild, striped back, pure and unadulterated. There's cherry fruit, blood plum, blood without the plum and plant matter of all kind with a particular floral spice. It is full and slinky in the mouth. There's excellent dept of fruit and terrific savoury nuance. It builds through the palate and has a kiss of minerally acidity and sneaky tannin buried beneath the flesh.

Still purple-red. Rich, tannic, rather ripe for my preference in Barbera. Plums at first. But after an hour in decanter this got much better. Still seemed alcoholic, but got more blackberry and the tannins smoothed.

about a 4 hr decant, wild berries to start and evolved to show a still firm structural wine. Seemed a bit hollow in the middle and then finishes short without lingering fruit notes, more tannin. Hoping this is just still too young and that a bit more resolution of tannins will allow the fruit to show as I think there is enough to develop further.

young brash and ripe at this point. cherry liqueur, touch of alc. lots of plum and black cherry in mid. if this calms - it may be excellent - at this point - pleasure to the max ...not for the faint of heart.

The nose is all on classic Barbera fruit: red and dark, fleshy cherries. Lovely. Intense and rich, the acidity makes it juicy and highly drinkable. Some underlying structure, with very finely grained tannins. It gained elegance on day two and three.

Light to medium bodied, dark purple. Very nice oaky nose, mushrooms, floral scents, ripe cherry. Alcohol still prominent after decanting for over an hour. Well balanced, muted finish. Overall, nice but not great. 89 pts

Decanted about three hours ahead. Dark red color, with excellent fruit (wild cherries, red currants) and roasted meats, minerals, and soft tannins in the finish. In good shape, with a few more years left.

An epic Barbera. Maybe one of the best Barberas I've ever had. Bright and freshed with raspberry, pepper and smashed herb notes. the ultimate Pizza wine.

From Santo Stefano. Big burly barbera with some sweet smoke or herb on the nose. No winter from the '15 to '16 vintage Elena notes and just a few rains and a little snow so everything is quite ahead this year. Soft and herby through the palate, very long finish. Not super concentrated but with many layers. Very well proportioned. Delicious wine. All aged in botti Grande over 10 HL per barrel. Bottled between 18 and 24 months after barrel.

Mais qu'elle belle découverte!! Saveurs de fruits frais! Fraise et framboise fraîche. Beau tannins pas asséchant du tout. Vin qui prend de l'amplitude avec de l'air. Les saveurs sont celles de fruits frais, mais la texture du vin est enveloppante. Moins bon le lendemain par contre. Donc probablement à boire dans les 5-8 ans (max!) suivant le millésime afin d'avoir encore du fruit. RQP ****

Returning to this several years later; it is still a dark and brooding wine. We decanted and aerated it, and after about a hour it was civilized enough to drink - and it was lovely, sappy and rich, really high level. With gorgeous polished fruit.

Très belle Barbera de Mauro Mascarello. Un beau fruit mûre, ample et racé. C'est juteux et un peu minéral. Long et bien équilibré, excellent avec les fettucinne sauce Gigi.
