Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Boutière

A bit rustic now, good to taste but a bit young for me now. No rough tannins and there’s clearly good stuff to underneath. Next in a year or so.

Bit youthful on this occasion but so full of promise

Un joli Maranges gorgé de fruit croquant, bien mûr, avec une fraicheur de bon aloi. Délicieux.

Definitely a little ripe: silky, borderline velvety texture, and while the acidity is there, the mouthfeel is a bit rich. A bit (red) fruit forward, but you get some earthy complexity and there is this warmth to the palate. Tannins are accessible and polished at the point, but have a little bit of grip to keep things interesting. New oak is not noticeable, though you get some spice on the finish.

Medium+ ruby red in color. On the nose, initially there's some tar/rubber notes, then there's strawberries, cranberries. On the palate it tastes a bit sweeter than the nose. Good acidity, elegant finish.

BWC & Friends - Whistle Stop Burgundy Trip 10th to 13th April 2025; 4/10/2025-4/13/2025 (La Belle France) : With dinner at our Air BnB in Beaune after a day's tasting in the Côte d'Or. Another lovely Maranges; this has a touch of sweetness to the tart fruits on the nose like a rosehip sorbet. Some hints of Rooibos tea as well. Palate has a lovely meatiness to it as well as some spicy plum compote richness. Bravo

The ‘22 Boutiere is a pretty young wine. It seems a bit on the light side to me, but what’s there is great. On the nose, I found dark red raspberry fruit, sweet spice, and red floral notes, with an attractive sense of sweetness. On the palate, the wine is light in body, really finessed with minimal tannin, with dark raspberry fruit, earth, chocolate, and sweet spice. Approachable bottle now (though will only get better with a few more years). Enjoyed with a lot of raw seafood, and it was subtle enough not to overpower the delicate flavors of the shellfish. Nice red fruit and acid with earthy / pencil shaving notes. Floral nose was pleasant.

Good density on the nose, dark and almost jammy bramble fruits initially, then more streamlined, redder, and fine. The palate leads with a pleasing crunch, a touch of chocolate-covered fruit and a graphite edge. Quite fine and a little spicy moving into creamy red fruits. Good drive and a long and fine finish.
