Gravner, Ribolla Gialla, Venezia Giulia IGT

Cloudy, orange with the remarkable range and evolution of scents that is characteristic of this wine. The suprising and refreshing dryness that follows makes it versatile with food - although a rather tart salad was not the optimal pairing. Still a great wine experience.

Very sexy wine. Much richer and deeper than my previous tastings of Gravner's amphora concoctions. Perhaps lending credence to the notion that these wines really need time in the cellar to show at their best. The nose was butterscotch and wild fennel (even stronger on the palate), and morphed into something like crème brûlée after an hour or two in the air. The wine has balance and beautifully integrated minerality. Very hard to reduce to components, but the overall effect …

I did not think well of it. (The 2000 is one of the best white wines I have ever had.)
