Inglenook, Petite Sirah, Napa Valley

By the glass at Bern's for a very reasonable price. Definitely well past its peak, but still an enjoyable glass. Mostly tertiary notes on the nose with leather, forest floor, wet moss. On the palate, nice acidity, tart cherry, prunes, slightly herbal. I don't think I'd drink an entire bottle of this, but for a capsule in history under $20 a glass, I'm glad I tried it! 89 points.

Jeff's "I know Bern's gems" Selection: The wine is falling off the cliff somewhat, Jeff liked it more than I did. But..he gets his "PSirah" nick not for nothing :)

Drank from the cellars at Berns Restaurant ($48, where the wine has been kept at 53 degrees since release). Afer decanting the nose offered little- it was tight. The color was inky jet black. A 30 minute rest woke the PS up; black fruit began to show on the boquet. The tannins have now fully resolved, leaving a seductive sensuous wine the dances accross the pallate. With K at dinner (cioppino). Dark red. Blackberry nose. Fairly fruity. Slightly alcoholic and heavy, but good with the cioppino. 5-7-10-4: 76/100.

this is being written after the fact. too long ago to recall details. i must have enjoyed since i saved the dead horse. i believe that this was the last vintage produced under hublein ownership before purchase (the same year) by francis ford coppola. it is wonderful to see that this wine can still be enjoyed at bern's. will have to order on my next visit.
