A lighter and fresher take on Saint-Émilion, this shows off beautiful floral notes—violets, a bit of mushroom, and a core of vinous red fruits like red cherry and raspberry. It’s aromatic and fresh, with a gentle bitterness of grilled herbs, black pepper, and a touch of cedar and cigar box. But nothing overwhelms—there’s a lovely balance with the fruitiness and florality. Medium(+) acidity, medium tannins, and a long herbal finish round it out. A graceful and drinkable vintage, and a …

Blackberry, licorice, crisp limestone, baking spice, floral notes and a mysterious muskiness on the nose. A bit fruit forward on the palate, with blackberry, black currant, a touch of chocolate and earth. Medium low acid, medium high coarse tannins. Pleasing complexity and balance. A bit basic but very satisfying for the cost

Fresh ripe berries on the nose. Beautiful color. Full body with lots of fruit and earthy tones on the palate. I really enjoyed this.

Comparing to 2020 Chateau Montlandrie, 2019 Chaeau les Cruzelles, and 2020 Saintayme, and 2019 Le Marquis de Calon. Vs the Montlandrie, the 2019 Le Marquis de Calon has more concentrated and immediate aromatics, concentration, and depth. More tobacco as well. But fairly similar levels, tho I do prefer the Marquis' greater concentration and immediacy. Some might say it's too obvious but I love it. The Cruzelle tho is a better match. More powerful concentrated aromatics with lots of tobacco and …

This is an outstanding value wine. This wine could easily age for 20 years. Would love to try again in ten years and see where it’s at.

Bordeau Tasting 1 (Westlake Wine Bar, Austin TX) : [flight] Cedar, Stewed/cooked black fruit (cherry and plum), chocolate. Mild tannin. Really like this wine and it tastes better than many pricer right bank Bordeaux reds we tasted!

Doing a vertical tasting of the 2016, 2017, and 2018 Saintayme. 2016: Nice above average concentration of violet aromatics, black fruits, medium grippy but softend tannins, medium acidity, hints of earth and leather. Good concentration, nice above average length finish. Coming back to this after the others, I now notice the mushroom aromatics on this as well, maybe similar to 2017 but less than the 2018. But the silky violet is the most prominent on the nose, as it is …

100% merlot, deep garnet, purple hue. clean fruity notes dominating, crushed cherries and berries, mostly dark with some red, m/m+ bodied, round tannins, a little furry, fresh fruity acidity. some mild spices and chocolate hints. An elegant St Emilion, well structured in a mid-size scale, pure and clean taste. very well polished. This is the finest vintage of Saintayme I have ever tasted. Medium-bodied, finesse styled, elegant, fresh and vibrant, produced from 100% Merlot, the wine is all about showing off its sweet, red, earthy pit fruits, flowers, smoke, truffle and plums in the nose, palate and elegant finish. Drink from 2023-2038.

Medium-bodied, focusing on its freshness, approachability and ripe, sweet fruits, the wine offers wet earth, flowers, red berries, oak and a soft, sweet, silky, fresh, palate presence. Made from 100% Merlot, there is a lot of charm and early drinking character here. 90-92

Opaque Distinctive nose (touch of rubber/reduction?) Cool, fresh, fragrant ripe new world berry notes, a touch of smoke. Good density with a lovely plump feel, rounded, lower acid? And good fragrance. Fresh tannins, they do build with grip and become quite chalky. Blue fruits and flowers, very intense, with a spicy finish.

Comprised of 100% Merlot, the 2017 Saintayme is an opaque crimson wine that is a credible member of Denis Durantou's stable. This particular bottle was splash-decanted and tasted over the ensuing 2-3 hours. Aromatically intense after the first hour, it delivers a nice array of red bramble fruits, Montmorency cherries, cedar, smoky herbs and allspice. Medium-to-full-bodied, tart, softly oaked and with medium edgy tannins, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose, stays solid in the middle and closes with a medium-length, …

Relatively intense and seductive aromas with plums, slightly sweet red fruit peel, espresso, leather and hints of vanilla. Medium-bodied, fresh and pronounced juicy wine with plums, espresso and mocha. A little more austere outcome, but not in a too negative way. Not in detail, but this drinks well for both game and cattle. 89 points.

Red fruits with a hint of earth and citrus on the front end. In the middle, you have a medium-bodied palate that offers spicy, red fruits, cocoa and another dash of that entertaining citrus in the finish. This forward wine was produced with 100% Merlot. You can enjoy this early in life.

Popped and poured. Dark ruby color with a nice brickishness. Earthy with truffle, black cherry, cassis on the nose. Black currant, black cherry, finishing with more black cherries, black currant, dark chocolate, earth, and a hint of oak. Very nicely balanced tannins, acidity, and fruits. Well-structured with a finish that keeps on going.

Required about 30 minutes before it opened smoothly. Once done, however, it was rich, both in color andf complexity. Nice nose and a very smooth finish.

Super tannic and tight at open. Almost undrinkable... at least you wouldn't WANT to drink it. 4 hrs later opened up quite a bit. Dark berries and some licorice. Oaky and still very tannic, but paired well with a fatty steak. It's exhibiting very nice blueberries, and pleasantly full-bodied, still oaky and still lots of tannins. By the time we finished it, it was much improved, but I don't think it had anywhere else to go. Don't believe the hype, …

Nose: black currant, black cherries, licorice, a beautiful, seductive nose and worth buying just for that. Taste: beautiful integration with good silky tannins, blueberries, and strawberries. There is definitly a sweet undertone on the nose and palate that GV called cotton candy, I'd call ripe blueberries. Very nice wine and at this price basically a must buy. Tannins still quite firm.
