Surprisingly lean with stony, mineral flavors underneath the dark fruit. Good acidity, very local. Good rather than great wine. At home with Søren & Mette.

Drunk with dear friends, one born 1961. Splendid brick color, fresh nose of chocolate and mushrooms. No tannins to speak of but light acidity supporting again chocolatey sweet taste with dry sous bois notes! Long aftertaste. A surprise as we feared the bottle dead after dismal cork extraction. great old wines still exist.

During our blind tasting of the 1998 Château La Pointe and the 2000 Château Haut-Bages Libéral, the contrasting qualities of Right Bank and Left Bank Bordeaux were unmistakable. The 1998 Château La Pointe, hailing from Pomerol on the Right Bank, showcased a plush, rounded profile with velvety tannins and inviting flavors of ripe plum, black cherry, and a touch of soft spice, making it a truly enjoyable and approachable wine. Meanwhile, the 2000 Château Haut-Bages Libéral from Pauillac on the …

This has developed into a delightful Pomerol, albeit a little simplistic. It is drinking well without aeration, and is a good value everyday drinker.

Not quite up to my last time of tasting, and more time in the decanter probably would have helped. That said, it is a very easy drink, and a good middle of the road wine to enjoy at an a relatively early age. It also has a an interesting grape mix of 80%+ Merlot with the rest Cabernet Franc. 89+

Went into the cellar and looked for something to drink. This bottle fell into my hands. Still remember when I bought it. Subscribed for about 13 Deutschmark, a long time ago and fills me with great sadness. A still decent wine, with good balance, nothing big, and still quite pleasant to drink.

Last tasted a year ago, this has really grown into itself, and is very approachable with a few hours in the decanter. It is a delightful Pomerol, deeply fruited and silky in the mouth. The finish is a little non descript, but this a great value wine with still some upside to come.

Nose has an abundance of red fruits with some raspberry and slightly charred Morello cherry to the fore with some tobacco leaf, a little freshly ground white pepper. There is also a tiny earthy, beetroot note and the faintest suggestion of a little grated dark milk chocolate. With time some lifted redcurrant too. All in all, lots going on here and more complex that I would have imagined. Palate also very agreeable, perhaps more on the dark fruits, texturally this …

Second time of tasting, and I realise I did this a disservice 6 weeks ago. It is all a simple matter of aeration. Last time I popped and poured, but on this occasion 3 hours in the decanter transformed the wine. There is still some residual tannin to resolve, but it is a highly enjoyable Pomerol and great value for money.

Was surprised at the color and fruit. While not a “great” wine IMO, still very enjoyable, and it has held up well given the age. Opened up after about 30 mins post decant.

This is definitely ready to start drinking, but it lacks nuance and is dominated by drying tannin on the palate and finish. This was not decanted, and perhaps it would improve the experience, but all in all I find it a little underwhelming.

Well matured wine. I bought a box (en primeur) in 2012 and just opened the first bottle. Combination of mainly Merlot and a small percentage of Cab Franc. Good fruit / berry, and dry aftertaste. We drank it with mixed grilled meat, which was great.

Decent enough and held up next to Roast Beef. But not extraordinary and probably not worth the price. Tasted no better than Pomerols at ~30GBP and I invested cellaring time also. Cassis, pencil shavings, short-medium length. Decent, quaffable.

Berns steakhouse. Perfect fill and cork. Needs 30 min to open up and then it was nearly perfection in a glass. Great balance and finish. Certainly in prime with at least another decade of prime drinking. No rush on these. Mostly merlot with the remainder of cab franc.

Not a great showing for this bottle. The wine showed thin and a bit hot, more like a California cab heading past maturity than a Bordeaux. Drink up.

45 min decant. Cherry, raspberry, graphite, slate, earth, pencil lead, clove, camphor, rosemary, violet, dark chocolate. Deep reddish-purple colour. Quite plush early on but gained structure throughout the evening. Still quite tannic. Needs time to shed the baby fat (5-10 years or more).

Dark ruby core, slight garnet rim. Gave it a good hour of air in the decanter. Open nose, lots of rich cassis, a few cedary notes. Over time, a few complex layers of ash, smoke emerged. On the palate, medium bodied, fluid, integrated tannins but a little hard and hot on the finish. Mellowed with time. Overall, a very nice Bordeaux, drinking if give it a couple of hours of air.

Opened and left to slow ox for 3 hours, but also had a small taste when opening. Ready to drink and found this really quite enjoyable although lacking complexity to score higher, but a good effort in this vintage for sure. Easy drinking, medium alcohol, not too much heat and nice fruit. Good value.

Note: I use a rating scale on which 85 represents a very good wine. Day 1 -- the wine was bright with pronounced cherry flavors -- not particularly Bordeaux like. but not bad. Wine was opened (but not decanted) a few ours before. But, on Day 3 (half bottle in a corked 375 ml in the fridge) the wine was totally different. Smooth, very right bank. Much more enjoyable to me. This was my last, and I am certainly glad …

Much more impressed with this the last time around, but this time it also had tougher competition. Developed nose with vegetable stew, dried fruit, ceder, tobacco, leather, barnyard, wet soil and a touch of rubber. Medium acidity, medium tannins, and a medium body. Medium(-) intensity and a medium finish. Lacks a bit of intensity and the fruit feels tired. Lovely nose though!

FW-BYOB-HT-15#2; 1/24/2015-1/25/2015 : This is just perfect right now. Wouldn't want a second more age on this! Open nose with a medium+ intensity of aromas of plums, morello cherries, stable, wet hay, cherry seeds, bretty plastics, earth, tobacco, a little coffee and a little blackcurrants. Medium+ acidity, dry with distinct, but quite round tannins. Very polished and in great balance. Mature fruit, high intensity, long finish and a medium body. WOTN for me!

Nose shows vibrant berries, red currants, violets, loam and some tobacco. Silky on the palate with tart red and black currants all over the place and fine but firm tannins. Notes of roses, coffee and graphite add complexity. A bright personality, fresh and inviting, but could develop and settle in the cellar.

Second Sunday Group: 2011 Bordeaux & others (Mike's) : Blackberry, cherry, clay and herb notes with an earthy undertone. Coming back to this, there's already some complexity and depth that the others don't have. Black fruit, plum, currants and earth on the palate with vanilla coming in on the finish. Has some tannin, yes, but this is surprisingly drinkable, and certainly very nice. My #4, Domino's #5 Group #1, 39 pts

The wine pours a thick, purplish color with a dark garnet rim and some bricking along with medium legs. On the nose, the wine lacks concentration but makes up for it with a dainty perfume - cassis, red fruits, morel mushrooms and just a hint of peat. Medium structure on the palate with velvety tannins though this fruit bomb of a wine is rather thin. Nevertheless, a very pleasurable, old-school Bordeaux that evokes notes of cherries, cassis, earth and parchment …

Not quite as pleasing as I remember this wine from a few years ago, although still very good. It had sort of strange taste upon opening -- not pleasant strange -- vegetal, I don't know exactly what. Quite dense in color. Very elegant, attractive bouquet right after opening. Then somewhat closed for an hour, before it opened up again. A big wine with a lot of tannins, of which quite a few come from the oak barrels, I believe. Sweet taste, almost "jammy", which paired with oak cause a combination that does not please my palate.
