Dark reddish-purple in color, essentially opaque. Forward, assertive & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, boysenberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, loam, pepper, mint, spices, minerals, cocoa & vanilla/& oak. Full bodied with a very good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with herbs, spices, cocoa, minerals & vanilla/oak. Drinks well at present with decanting & extended airing although at 18 years of age, it is …

Wow. Just wow. On opening just an explosion of ripe fruit on the nose. Palate is similar, smooth, ripe , soft tannins, still some acidity, juicy currant and black berry and plum fruit. Just so well balanced, concerntrated and long, this is above expectations. Fantastic. Better nose would be 95+.

Seemed old and tired. This was lacking fruit and punch. Drink now.

Fully mature, nice balance of fruit, dark notes abs kisses of oak. Still full of tannins but drink soon before the fruit fades.

Nicely lifted nose of jellied cranberry, wet stone and full mouth flavors of ripe blackberry, pepper, iron, sous bois

This was a nice bottle of wine. Nose of earth and blueberry with blue fruit, leather, cracked pepper, moderate tannin and acidity with a slight appearance of sweetness that rounded out the mouthfeel.

Solid aged Syrah from Heathcote region. Pleasant red fruits, black pepper, and minerals. No obvious flaws, but lacks complexity and mid palate seems a bit hollow. Doubt it will improve from here so drink up.

Red fruit, dirt, and a refreshing hint of mint! Amazing sometimes how long these Aussie Shiraz can last when they come from solid earth. And this one does. Definitely a contemplative wine, not for everyone, but very well put together. Drink now, and for another 3 years.

Agree with the note below. This is robust and typical of Heathcote. Fruit is quite juicy still and oak is still apparent, but it is balanced by dried rosemary and thyme, slight bacon fat quality, cured black olives, alcohol is well integrated, and plenty of acid left. I feel like this may still have a few years left til peak, but it is not far off.

Really nice shiraz with all the usual Heathcote elements. The fruit is bang on, lots of flavour but not overly extracted. The acidity is in the background and restrained, and the tannins are just softening. As usual it is the balance that makes this such a good wine.

Had this with the Old Bastard 2006 and Grant Burge Meshach 2005 which are two top level wines. The Tatiarra was by far my favorite of all three. The others, granted were larger wines but they did not have the length and even palate that the Tatiarra COD had. Elegant, smooth and terrific long finish. I have to say this was the Shiraz I have enjoyed the most in my life. Better than the 06 and 07.

Typical quality Heathcote shiraz. Good earthy qualities, nice fruit and robust structure. Close to its peak I suspect - in that I doubt it will improve from here, but then there is no sign of it fading yet. I'd guess this is closer to a 2 decade wine.

Nicely balanced shiraz. Drinking very well now. Blueberries and plums on the palate. Probably close to its peak now, so start drinking it if you have it. It will last another 5 years though.

Drank with an 05 and an '11 Carlisle. The others dispappeared quickly and this was barely touched. So disappointing. What a difference a year makes.

Concentrated fruit, with a touch of menthol / eucalyptus (unexpected for a Heathcote). Took some time to open up. Pleasant enough without being a wine I would recommend to others. A shame really because I have really enjoyed other vintage.

Medium bodied. The nose comes across as brambly, with hints of pepper, followed by hints of raspberry's and a finish of coconut. Nothing seems out of place. In a word heady. In the palette very light on its feet. Not really hot at all. Considering some of the reviews I'd read of this, I expected it to be a heavy fruit bomb. Comes across as more bitter than most shiraz. I think this has lovely balance, of fruit/tannin/acidity. I can't …

On first opening the nose is showing some light red berries and a bit of play dough in the background. The palate has medium weight red berries and some pepper that lingers on to a slightly dry finish. One hour after opening the nose is really expressive with cocoa, licorice and spices galore. The palate is similar with a spicy sweet finish. One day later the nose is showing mostly licorice and flowers with a bit of cocoa. The palate …

Unsurprisingly, this wine was popular later in the evening, when one guest commented as to how well it went with the store-bought chocolate cream pie.

Smooth, full and vanillaed in the "Napa deluxe" style, my take away is that this wine is one dimension and over-ripe, its low-acid flabbiness somewhat girdled by the wood. My bottle was starting to oxidize w/o the benefit of positive aspects fo age. I'm assuming this is not an anomoly but the general direction these bottles are going. 40 bucks from Garagiste who fails me again -- batting about .400 which is top notch in baseball but not for a …

Nice nose, but nothing extraordinary, but from the first sip it had an extraordinary taste to it...caramel, chocolate, and dark fruits. Nothing Shiraz I've had that was quite like it. Improved in the glass. One of the most interesting Shiraz offerings I've had.

Hmmm, this one surprised me, as I expected a superstar...opened on NY Eve as a special taster, but wasn't wow'd, neither were the other tasters...is this closed down? Decanted and left open for 4 hrs prior, but never rose to the occasion. I think I'll stick with the regular bottling for the short term...

More subtle than the 2005 - the only other vintage of this wine I've had to date - but it's still incredible, just a point or two below that one. Decanted for 45-60 minutes. Like the Kalleske Shirazes the nose is filled with ample dark fruit, mineral, and "the great smell of the sky after it rains" (if that makes any sense). The palate is lush and elegant, not overpowering at all (even @ 15.5% alcohol), and well balanced... lots …
