Albino Rocca, Barbaresco, Vigneto Loreto

A bit underwhelming early but really blossomed. Grainy red fruits, mineral streaks, old blood. Some astringency. Good showing.

Italian odds and sods (N&J's place, Canberra) : From Coravin. Cherry, plums, a little sweet spice, pot pourri and rose petal, clay. Juicy, fleshy, cherry, plummy, fruit persists long carried by savoury and powdery textured tannins which introduce a little umami on the finish, balanced, good.

Old musty cellar smell . Dark Brown color ;Leave in the glass for one hour. No more fruit flavor left , nutty taste. Has past its prime drinking time . Should drink 10 years ago .but still drinkable .

Opened for Italian night with Elaine. Nice and mature....full bodied and showing some bricking. Very nice food wine....lighter cherry, strawberry, cranberry notes. Karen noticed some cork/cardboard on the nose at the very beginning but that blew of instantly Long cork. Very nice food wine.

Drank after bottle had been open for three hours. Nose: cherry and black plum; mouth: cherry, plum and spice. Smooth with enough grip to suggest that the wine had a few more years in it. Delicious now, however.

Sunday Group: 2006 Napa Cabernets (Our house) : Courtesy of Leon. Cherry, red currant and floral notes on the nose and palate. Excellent acidity and tannin structure. Balanced. Excellent.

Darker duller core with dull brownish maroon rim; nose shows lots of tar, wilted roses, caraway, some soy, almost past peak but holding on, later on with more air this has more penetrating licorice and fresher rose and cherry nites; palate shows a lush riper feel to the fruit and tNnin, must be a ripe vintage, initially fresher on palate than nose suggests, nice layering, polish, slight soy and caraway on palate; this particular bottle needs to be consumed soon.

A ripe and perhaps slightly simple interpretation. Yes no doubt on the young side but not sure it has the smarts to ever be a great wine. Very good length with bristling tannin but not particularly dry or coarse. Fruits are very 'dry red' but fair enough given the variety. No harm leaving this for another 4 to 5 years.

Last btl...1.5hr decant, paired w/stuffed pork tenderloin...This was my best experience in the last few I've had with this wine...nose was expressive and there was still some fruit in there...I filtered right out of btl, catching some debris in initial pour...can't wait to see what's in the bottom half...

Lovely acid freshness and tension in the palate. Not a heavy wine, but nice underlying power. Long, drying finish - excellent once food is added.

Family dinner at the Big House, traditional spaghetti with meat sauce. Light bodied fruity wine with good savory components. Strawberries and spice, paired well with food. 14.5% hidden fairly well.

The 1st glass had a glob of sediment...glob...odd...very little fruit and course structure that was mostly uninteresting...the shame was it was paired with a well made dish of little neck clams in a delicious fra Diablo sauce...1 out of 2 ain't bad...

Dark and warm fruits and berries on the nose. Tastes likewise including leather, tobacco and flowers. Decent length. Well made barbaresco.

Drank at Toscania Trattoria with Beth and Ted. Pretty translucent red. Nice mouth feel with a little too much acidity but overall a very enjoyable drink. Reminded me of a quality chianti rather than a nebbiolo.

Pop and poured...initially looked a little cloudy, however cleared quickly...nose was certainly Nebbiolo, with pleasant dark currant...while, fine alone , wine begs for food...drink soon. Not going to evolve much from here...

This wine has become a little bit more brawny in the bottle. Loved it the first time for its Burgundian strawberry, cranberry, and light cherry. This wine is now more typical Nebbiolo for the pure cherry it possesses. It still has the sexy, feminine structure which makes it extremely drinkable. Remarkably accessible for a young Barbaresco. Was expecting something with a ton of tannin, but it's surprisingly finessed with the tannins quite fine grained and fresh dark fruited flavours seasoned with tarry, spicy and floral elements. Still very primary, but very enjoyable.

Pop and pour. Very tight on the nose and palate initially, but really opened up nicely with some swirling in the glass.
