Intense and powerful nose of florals, red fruit, ginger and honey. The palate is quite good, having developed an interesting tertiary honeyed nuttiness with a textured, supple roundness, but it seemed to lack liveliness and dynamism. A bit too static and one-note, though it does persist and is quite long. A nice, oxidative-styled wine. Disgorged on October 2015, elevage for 75 months, presumably a blend of 2008 and 2009 fruit.

A 2019 disgorgement, which I think means it is made with wine from the 2012 and 2011 vintages. It tastes more evolved than that, really, although (at least for now) that's a good thing. Deepish straw colour, and deep also on the nose, which is savoury, full of grilled nuts, dough and gingery spice, and somewhat oxidative like a bubbly LDH white. There's intensity and bright acidity on the palate that gives it the character of lime pickle, ample chew …

Deep and expressive, opening with lemon curd, ripe apple and brioche, followed by subtle hazelnut and citrus oil. Broad and layered on the palate, showing ripe fruit richness held in check by good acidity and chalky structure. Texture is dense and vinous rather than frothy, with savoury undertones emerging with air. The finish is the standout — long, dry, and persistent, with a gentle phenolic grip and saline lift. Became more lush and expansive over time and proved excellent with …

Champagnes at Gilmore : 2017 base. 100% Pinot Noir. Disgorged Oct 2025, 1g/l dosage. The only universally-liked champagne between the two camps of fans of linear champagnes vs a richer style. Hedonistic without lacking freshness or complexity, but had some oxidative notes that made me think this was from the mid-'00s. Would drink these now.

Disgorged 07/22 - 2015 base vintage. Opened three hours prior to tasting. Stunning bottle - luscious red fruit, nicely structured, hedonistic. This would be great with a nice cut of beef. Quite open right now and will last for some time, but to my palate this edition is not a 30-year champagne.

Base 2004. Disgorged 2009. Golden, almost amber, in the glass. Power and elegance. Butter, vanilla, toast, crushed apples and honey. An almost everlasting aftertaste. Truly great.

Drinking this is near what scratching the outer edge of the atmosphere of our own existential plane must taste like: lemons rind, walnuts, ocean spray, and transcendental bliss commingled with fear. Such a beautiful expression of pinot noir grapes. Mine was disorged in '23 and could age beautifully. But why waste something so beautiful? Enjoyed with a burger, french fries and garlic aioli.

2018 degorgement. The star of the Christmas dinner. Happy to have shared this with my parents. I had the 2015 degorgement 2 years ago and this again blew my mind. I need to make sure I always have this in my cellar. This is very special.

disgorgement 2020. Incredible fresh (especially noticeable after the Krug 2002), with lots and lots of energy, exciting wine , that shows hidden complexity. In 5-10 years even more enjoyable.

2013 disgorgement. Big, creamy and rich. Feels like this should be decanted and served in a burgundy glass. Deserves rich food.

2010 Barolo Dinner (Richmond Station, Toronto) : Unknown base year and disgorgement date. What I do know is that this was a deep, dynamite bottle with incredible black fruit, citrus, and limestone. Fantastic.

Very similar to my last TN from last year. Combines superb aromatic complexity with the richer housestyle and some higher acidity providing superb freshness. Deserted island bottle....

Fruit of lemon and orange zest but also fresh pear and granny smith apple. Autolytic notes of dough and glazed brioche. Layered with fine smoke, hazelnuts and a touch of caramel. The palate is fresh and conveys a great sense of density. Super- linear acidity and a long, vibrating finish. Palate also adds grilled lemon and a splash of lime juice to the aromatics. This easily stands its ground even hours after opening. Worldclass.

My Jan 2016 disgorgement Egly-Ouriet Les Crayères after 8 years in cellar – absolutely singing now with extremely aromatic intensity and richness that's captivated critics for decades. The nose explodes with deep fruit, brioche, and that distinctive chalky minerality from the legendary Ambonnay terroir, while extended lees aging has created layers of complexity without the heavy oxidative notes some grower champagnes develop.

Golden yellow med dark. Some brioche still but also toasted nut aromas. Creamy with some weight. Nuts and some apple, balancing acidity and good length. Really quite long and aromatic

16x Grower Champagne : I usually gravitate toward the grandes marques and value the role dosage plays in rounding out a Champagne. Hence, this tasting was a great chance to explore the world of grower Champagnes and their wide stylistic range. A few observations: 1) The stylistic diversity is striking, with something for nearly every palate. That breadth is one of the growers’ key strengths. 2) Many wines showed real complexity, often amplified by the absence of dosage. 3) As …

La Fleur de Sel, Cossonay, Switzerland. BYOB. My April 2024 note is still accurate on this July 2014 Disgorgement. May be it showed even better. Terrific complexity. Cornucopia of candied white fruits. Oxidative notes right where and in the quantity you want them adding intrigue and not obscuring the rest.Very fine mousse. This is in prime drinking window. A consummate gastronomic Champagne. My tablemates reaction suggested this was eclipsing the Raveneau Butteaux 14 served just before it.

Grower Champagne dinner : From the modest 2017 vintage and still showing well with good density. Dark-toned and spicy - bergamot, hay, and orange peel. Medium+ bodied and structured with gentle oxidative shadings. A vinous and distinctive Pinot Noir Champagne that combines richness with elegance. Good today, but I had even better samples from top base vintages. 96+

Good to revisit this in blind. The nose shows candied fruit, red dates, and sweet spice. Palate is sweet and expressive. It is very smoothe and resolved. Perhaps just lacking some complexity. Nevertheless, it is very enjoyable. And interestingly, it shows no sign of greenness. 92-93

WisconSomm Sommer Camp. Side by side against R. Geoffroy, 2006 Cumieres Rouge, CC and Bollinger 2009 Les Cotes de Enfants Rouge CC. The Egly Ouriet held it's own. By far the most evolved out of all three Coteaux Champenois vins rouges. Aromatically reminded me of a 1er Cru Pommard. Ripe red fruit that has mellowed out over time. Still with a tannic earthy edge! Tomato leaf, dried cran, sous bois, forest floor, and cellar funk. Rather 'Burgundian' and I hate …

Old Burg Dinner at Marc's house outside DC (DC/Silver Spring MD) : Disgorged December 1995. Sweet nose with light brioche, fruits and light mature notes (nutty/light caramel), really complex. Medium/heavy bodied, nice acidity and balancing acidity. Taste was equally complex. Certainly could age some more to get the nutty tertiary flavors, but great now. A touch on the sweet side for people, but I felt it was balanced.

From Jan 2017 disgourged bottle. This seems a bit primary - lovely depth from 3.5 years on lees but mousse not as fine as expected and it lacked a bit of freshness. Better mousse and acitity and this would be killer with 3-5yrs in bottle but as-is this became rather tiring after a glass. Shame. 90pts. Hold to 2020.

Blanc de Noirs Champagne tasting : (Disgorged January 1997, 31m on the lees) Still some bubbles left, but not that much. Mature and vinuous nose of mushroom, forest floor, sweet cumquat. Rather full bodied. This was more about wine that bubbles. A rare experience.

Complex nose with a bit of green, coffee bean, red fruit and flower. His 11 vintage has more weight than the previous vintage probably because he used more oak.

Wow, what a fabulous bottle of champagne. Disgorged in Feb 1996 after 54 months on the lees, this is based on 1990 vintage. Mature nose and palate showing incredible depth and class. Mushrooms, bruised apple. Nice minerality. Bubbles are superb of elegance: very fine, lifting the entire wine. Broad and structured, honeyed with just the right acidity. Awesome finish. What an amazing bottle.
