Rene Bouvier Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice

Wow what a bourgogne! Dark cherries, leather, strawberry, vanilla, lovely acidity but also velvet smooth. Loved it!

A light, transparent ruby red in color, this Burgundy was tart cherry, smoke and leather on the nose, followed by light cherry on the palate – kind of like a cherry Jolly Rancher (in a good way). A delicious cherriness all around and a wonderful end to our warm and sunny 4th of July.

Had other bottles that were fine but this one started out just ok and flattened out within 30 minutes. Nothing really more to say.

I struggled not giving this a 91. I know it is only one point but this wine truly is an elegant, sophisticated wine with soft tannins, minimal acidity, balanced red fruit and ready to drink now. My problem is while it approaches something more it lacks the complexity in my opinion to award high points. I characterize it as a upper level table wine, crowd pleaser. Having said this I would by more. It really is a very good wine.
