Best of my 3 bottles, I enjoyed the medium weight and abv (13%) in a warm vintage, it's still delivering mature, classic Cabernet aromas and flavors, e.g., cedar, tobacco, herbal, and red-black fruits. Balanced, deep, and long, it is a treasure. I have a soft spot for this bottling ever since a '97 enjoyed at Il Guscio in Firenze.

From mag. Still so vibrant on the nose with a core of red and black cherry layered with leather, earth and dried herbs. Partly resolved tannins but lovely structure and freshness. Long, savoury finish. Delicious but no immediate rush.

Only a 30 minute aeration and decant. The tastes released well in that time, and nose was berry, chcolate, slightly metallic. Opened up more in the glass. Garnet color, short legs, and alot of caramel. low acidity. Was a great bottle. Ive got 5 more and I think ill finish them before the end of 2026, though I think there may be a few more good years with proper cellaring.

2 hours after a double decant, and some some in a glass, this wine was singing! Beautiful full deep color, followed by dark berries on the nose, and more dark berrries, pencil lead, and with some christmas spice on the palate. Took a little bit of decanting to get this going but once it did it really showed well. The nose is reminiscent of Margaux. Silky mothfeel with lots of red fruit and a medium plus finish. This wine drinks in the sweet spot now.

Pnp. In neck / bottom neck fill - perfect bottle. Was excited to try this, I like Sammarco and this is the highest rated mature vintage by Galloni who gave it a 97 points in 2015. Even though this has only a small percentage of Sangiovese, it shines through with some higher toned perfume, dried flowers, incense smoke. This is how I prefer my super tuscans - Sangio adorned by Cabernet which provides a gravelly, tobacco-laced underpinning for the Italian side to shine. Plenty of depth, fruit, and power but seems like it's on a good plateau now. Beautiful.

My favorite of the night. This is in the perfect drinking window. Dark fruits, plenty of complexity, balanced tannins and acid. Less overwhelming than I find some of the big IGT’s—I really like the way it has mellowed so well with bottle age.

A wine that I suspect is slightly passed its best but still enjoyable to drink. Something funky, earthy, wet wood on the nose and a palate that offered a complex range of flavours but little in the way of fruit, followed by a moderate finish. “Mellow” is a good adjective for this wine. I have three bottles left and will aim to drink them in the next 12 months.

What an impressive majestic wine. Slow oxed for three hours. Medium garnet with limited bricking the wine sports a spectacular nose of red currant, rose and tobacco. The palate likewise has a terrific inner core of red and black fruits including red berries, plums, tobacco and herbs in a complex medium bodied wine. The only minor shortcoming is the finish which was a little pinched. This wine is fully mature but should hold for at least another five years.

A magnum decanted for 2 hours. Deep opaque purple-crimson in colour. A very rounded and gently perfumed nose. Palate is velvety and perfectly resolved. Very good reverberance in the head but a bit of alcoholic heat on the swallow. A very mellow and enjoyable wine that is fully at peak or just starting to slip...unfortunately, it lacks any wow factor.

Claret-like, showing mostly red fruit (it's principally cabernet sauvignon with a minor sangiovese component). Fully mature with excellent a sweet entry, good concentration and excellent balance. Showed some cocoa on the long finish. Probably would have been swooning, but it suffered for the 100 pt showing of a flawless '85 Sassicaia in the glass next door.

I absolutely adore this wine. Tonight's wasn't as spectacular as that bottle in Dec, but very beautiful. Stood 750ml for months, slow ox-ed briefly, then poured a touch (from the outset, it wasn't tight as much as it was awkward) and decanted the rest and slowly savored.
