Gassy and a little weird today... Cali sponti? Methinks yes... Aromas of well toasted sourdough, petrichor, curry, licorice, mint, pine forest, beets, strawberry jam, orange candy, dried roses... Tangy and savory on the palate, fruit feels a little cooked and dried, but this is quite lively and fresh, the yeasty and gassy qualities are getting in the way though, this will be better tomorrow. Tannins are fine and acidity is so well integrated, this has the balance to improve for …

A bit sweet and confected. Lacking acidity and complexity

Dry, medium body, medium acid with some effervescence. Vegetal, barnyard and mushroom.

Angular and just a little reduced at pnp. Cranberry lipstick and carbonic at the first sip. Lots of desolved CO2 and dare I say, so much it’s gotta be secondary ferment.

Much more Burgundian than Californian, as is to be expected from the house style. Taut and linear, sour cherry and freshly tilled earth, coupled with bright acidity and elegant structure. Give it a good decant, as it will unfold in the glass and gain complexity with a little air. Premier Cru Beaune if we are looking for comps. Very nice...

Eh, at this price. It’s balanced and enjoyable, but there’s little particularly memorable here. Some fruit, some structure, some acidity, but little about the wine feels truly distinct or deeply interesting right now.

wonderful wine - a California burgundy without the earthiness found in so many French wines - easy on the palate - elegant without overbearing fruit - and very well balanced - drinking very well now - will enhance any meal and is a joy to sip on its own - if you can find it - purchase it immediately - its well worth it!!!!!

Elegant and restrained. But there was something very alluring about this wine and I am very excited for the future. Extremely refined and wonderful weight. Very pretty and has a bright future.

Bright and fresh, and tight on the palate right now. Needs time.

Sampled at winery. This is like the opposite of typical California Pinot. Light body, fruit is so restrained as to be almost undetectable, though there is some strawberry flavor. Almost all stems and structure. Low alcohol. Seems like an unsuccessful attempt to make Burgundy with California fruit. This may be better in 3-5 years but is mostly stem juice now.

Dramatically overshadowed by its peer from Peter Martin Ray. The latter can fairly trot out that overused word, "Burgundian," whereas I wonder who this wine is for at the price.
